Computer Friends Mission Statement Computer Friends is a computer club dedicated to helping seniors learn computer basics while enriching their creative efforts with speakers, classes and social functions. Its goal is to provide seniors with stimulating interaction between serious computer growth and personal enjoyment. Computer Friends is sponsored by the Friends of Oasis located in Corona del Mar, California.
NEXT MEETING Wednesday February 8 , 1:00 pm Oasis Senior Center Room 1 Topic: System Mechanic Software for PC Management Speaker: Karen Sorenson System Mechanic is a program designed to fix, speed up and maintain PCs so they run like new forever. It combines one-click fixes and automatic maintenance with more than 50 robust tools, enabling novices and experts alike to clean out their computers and keep them in peak condition. Our speaker will go over some root causes of computer slow down and how they can be overcome. Karen was born and raised in southern California and has been with Iolo Technologies, the company which makes System Mechanic, for about a year. She is a Public Relations Manager for the company. Bring your questions and we'll try to answer them. ````````` Our meetings usually include a question and answer session at the beginning where people having problems with their computers can get help from some of our more knowledgeable members. After our main speaker we break for refreshments and then hear from Randy Langel, our resident computer expert, who also answers questions and tells us about the latest developments in computer technology and the internet. Over the next few months Randy's talks will constitute a class on content-based retrieval: How to store and retrieve information to accomplish what we want without worrying about Files, Directories, etc.	COMPUTER FRIENDS Meets ten times a year, the second Wednesday of each month at 1:00 PM. There is no meeting in August and December. The optional Lunch Bunch continues to meet each Wednesday before the meeting at 11:30 AM at the Oasis Dining Room. Be sure to call Oasis at least two days ahead of time at 949.644.3244 to reserve a lunch for the meeting day. It is an easy stroll over to Room 1 for the Computer Friends Program at 1 PM. Dues are $8 a year per person or $12 per couple.
