Volunteer Opportunities

OASIS, which stands for Older Adult Social and Information Services, is a large senior center located in Corona del Mar.  The OASIS Senior Center is owned and operated by the City of Newport Beach and is staffed by a core of professionals who are responsible for planning classes and activities.  The Center is not an assisted living facility or treatment center, it is in fact, a place for seniors to go and take part in a variety of classes and activities.   The Center is fortunate to have a non-profit organization, Friends of OASIS, which provides both financial and volunteer support to the Center.  Friends of OASIS has a travel department, owns 2 sailboats for a sailing club, has a garden club, a gift shop and has a monthly get togethers for all of the members to name just a few of the things that the Friends of OASIS offers to the active senior community in Newport Beach.

These are the people who help make good things happen for seniors.

Whenever you see a large-group event happening at the OASIS Senior Center, you can be sure that there are a number of our several hundred senior volunteers helping out. Some may be setting up the room, others may be in the kitchen preparing food, others may be greeting you at the door, and some will be helping to clean up after the event.

Then there are the day-to-day things our volunteers make happen–answering your questions at the reception desk, helping in the Friends of OASIS office, selling you something in the Gift Shop or facilitating one of our free activity groups, clubs or classes.

As seniors visit the Center from day to day, they may not realize that they are surrounded by volunteers helping out in many ways to make sure the Center’s programs and services are available to them.

You can volunteer to do many different things in two ways. You can work on an on-going time and day schedule convenient to you to carry out many of our volunteer activities, or you can volunteer to work on one-time special event.

If you do not use a computer, inform the volunteers at the Information Desk. Our number is 949.718.1800. You can also check with us in-person, at the Friends of OASIS office.
